When Life Reminds You What Really Matters - Parkmore Supplements

Every Sunday I try to publish a blog.

This past Sunday, I didn't.

Not because I ran out of ideas, not because I was too busy with Parkmore, and certainly not because I don't enjoy writing them. The truth is much simpler than that.

Life got in the way.

A few days ago, I flew home to Ireland to spend some time with my parents and, as life often does, it had a different plan waiting for me. My mother became seriously ill, and what was supposed to be a family visit quickly turned into a long day in hospital, appointments, and making sure she received the care she needed.

Thankfully, she is now back home and improving.

The experience has reminded me of something that I think all of us—whether we own horses, love our dogs, or simply care for the people around us—can sometimes forget.

The things that matter most are rarely the things on our calendar.

At Parkmore, we spend every day talking about prevention, listening to what an animal is trying to tell us, supporting the body before small problems become much bigger ones, and treating every customer as an individual. Those principles don't stop when we close the office door. They carry over into our families, our friendships, and the way we choose to live our lives.

Sometimes caring means staying up all night with a sick horse.

Sometimes it means sitting on the kitchen floor comforting an anxious dog.

And sometimes it means putting work aside and sitting beside your mother in a hospital room.

The responsibility is different, but the heart behind it is exactly the same.

One of the greatest lessons horses have ever taught me is to pay attention to the little things. They whisper long before they scream. A slight change in appetite, a different look in their eye, a subtle shift in behaviour—those little details often matter more than the obvious ones.

People aren't so different.

Sometimes they need someone to notice.

Sometimes they simply need someone to show up.

That lesson has been front and centre for me this week.

While I've been here in Ireland, the Parkmore team has continued looking after customers, packing orders, answering questions, and keeping everything moving. Seeing them step up has made me incredibly proud. It reminds me that we're not just building a supplement company—we're building a culture of people who genuinely care.

I'll still make it over to the Dublin Horse Show for a couple of days. The RDS has always been one of my favourite places to catch up with friends, meet horsemen and women from around the world, and see some incredible horses. I'll be making the most of every minute I'm there before heading back to my parents.

Because that's where I'm needed most right now.

If there's one thing I'd leave you with this week, it's this:

Don't wait for the perfect moment to check on someone you care about.

Don't assume they'll tell you if something is wrong.

Take the extra few minutes. Make the phone call. Ask the question. Listen carefully.

Whether you're caring for a horse, a dog, or a member of your own family, kindness is never wasted.

From all of us at Parkmore, thank you for your continued support, your patience while I'm away, and for allowing us to be a small part of caring for the animals you love.

Until next time…

Be Kind. Be the person who you needed when you were starting out.
